Bilingual voice development studies show that bilingual children’s voice development is significantly different from that of monolingual children. Bilingual children are most likely to be underestimated or mistakenly assessed if bilingual development of children is compared to monolingual children. This study uses a standardized voice test to explore the impact of language background on phonetic development in bilingual (Cantonese and Mandarin) children. This paper records and compares the speech development of two-year-old half-bilingual children of two different backgrounds and compares the two children’s language performance with the single-language children. The results show that bilingual children with different language backgrounds have different speech performance, which is different from that of monolingual children. This article proposes a proposal to test the development of bilingual children’s speech.
