时代特征、广东特色、青年特点，构成了２１世纪广东共青团工作的宏观背景。今后一个时期团工作的发展趋势和宏观走向应从以下五个“相适应”中去把握：（一）团的目标指向要与广东率先基本实现社会主义现代化的发展要求相适应；（二）团的根本任务要与实现广东“十五”计划的宏伟目标相适应；（三）团的自身建设要与广东经济社会结构变化相适应；（四）团的运作方式要与广东经济社会的运行机制相适应；（五）团的发展空间要与广东开放格局相适应．
The characteristics of the times, the characteristics of Guangdong and the characteristics of the youth constitute the macro background of the work of the Communist Youth League in Guangdong in the 21st century.
