英语低调陈述（UNDERSTATEMENT）按语义可分为正面低调陈述、反面低调陈述和隐含低调陈述。按结构可分为辞格兼用、利用词汇和语法等三大主要构成形式。低调陈述具有或轻描淡写，或含蓄内敛，或冷嘲热讽，或欲扬故抑等修辞特点，和在低调中藏高亢，在柔和里显雄劲，在诙谐内含辛辣，在谦恭下展豪迈等修辞效果。理解和掌握低调陈述，对提高英美文学欣赏水平不无裨益。
