研究证实了中更新世微玻陨石层位于布容/松山(B/M)界线之下, 并根据南海ODP772A, 17957和17959柱状样同位素和古地磁资料推算的沉积速率, 计算出深海中更新世微玻陨石层的年龄早于B/M界线, 约为10~12 ka. 而黄土剖面中的中更新世微玻陨石层却位于B/M实测界线之上, 这是由于黄土中的B/M实测界线已向下偏离其真实位置所造成, 反映了古地磁极性事件在黄土剖面中记录的复杂性, 同时也增加了海-陆地层对比的难度.
