Eep: With every sun comes a new day. A new beginning. A hope that things will be better today than they were yesterday. But not for me. My name’s Eep. And this is my family. The Croods. If you weren’t clued in already, by the animal skins and sloping[倾斜的] foreheads, we are cavemen. Most days we spend in our cave, in the dark. Night after night, day after day. Yep. Home sweet home. When we did go out, we struggled to find food in a harsh[艰苦的] and hostile[不利的] world. And I struggled to survive my family. We were the last ones around. There used to be neighbors. The Gorts, smashed by a mammoth[猛犸]. The Horks, swallowed by a sand snake. The Erfs, mosquito[蚊子] bite. The Throgs, common cold. And the Croods...That’s us. The Croods made it, because of my dad. He was strong, and he followed the rules, the ones painted on the cave walls: Anything new is bad. Curiosity is bad. Going out at night is bad. Basically, anything fun is bad. Welcome to my world. But this is a story about how all that changed in an instant[一瞬间]. Because what we didn’t know was that our world was about to come to an end. And there were no rules on our cave walls to prepare us for that.
“clue sb. in”=“clue sb. up”,表示为某人提供某些信息,后面通常跟“on”或者“about”,再加信息,例如:
Somebody must have clued him in on our sales strategy.(一定是有人把我们的营销策略告诉了他。)
She is really clued up on politics.(她对政治非常博学多闻。)
Grug: Tonight we’ll hear the story of Krispy Bear. A long time ago, this little bear was alive. She was alive because she listened to her father and lived her life in routine and darkness and terror. So she was happy. (Eep sighs) But Krispy had one terrible problem. She was filled with...curiosity.
(everyone feels astonished[惊讶]) Ugga: Grug!
Grug: Yes, yes. And one day, while she was in a tree, the curious little bear wanted to climb to the top.
Thunk: What?
Grug: And no sooner than she climbed to the top she saw something new and died.
Ugga: Just like that?
Grug: Yes! Her last moments of terror still frozen on her face.
Gran: Same ending as every day. (laughs)
Thunk: I get it, Dad. I get it. I will never do anything new or different.
Grug: Good man, Thunk.

He had no sooner arrived than he was asked to leave again.
No sooner had he arrived than he was asked to leave again.
Eep: Going somewhere?
Guy: The Mountain. High ground. End of the world, remember?
Eep: That already happened. It destroyed our cave.
Guy: No. That was just the beginning of the end. The end of the end is still coming.
Grug: Eep. Drop it.
Eep: (Guy is struggling) We can’t let him go! What if we don’t find a cave before sunset? What if it takes a few days? Oh, what if the birds come back?
Gran: We need his fire, dummy[
Grug: Fine. You’re staying with us until we find a cave. Guy: (trapped in a handy[方便携带的] trunk by Grug) What? No, I’m not! Don’t make me part of this. Stay here if you want, but let me go. I’ve got a dream, a mission, a reason to live!
Eep: Not anymore!
Guy: Ummm, I’ve got an idea. Let’s go to that mountain.
Grug: It’s too far.
Eep: Dad really has his heart set on a cave.
Guy: There are caves on that mountain.
Eep: Have you been there?
Guy: It’s a mountain. Mountains are safe. Mountains have caves and water and sticks.
Thunk: Mom, mom, did you hear that? I can get my own stick!
Guy: Yes. Sticks. And caves. Caves and sticks. Crazy sticks. Let’s go.
Grug: Sh…Quiet! (they witness the distant land is cracking[裂开]) Uh, I’ve made a decision. We’re going to that mountain! Don’t ask me why. It’s just a hunch[直觉]. It just, just feels right.
Ugga: I don’t know, Grug. We’ve never really walked that far.
Thunk: I don’t…I don’t think my feet can do that. Gran: I’ll never live long enough to get there.
Grug: Let’s do it. Oh, come on, just think. Our whole family, packed together on a long, slow trip across the country? Days and nights with just each other? We’ll tell stories. We’ll laugh. (laughs) We’ll become closer as a family.
“have one’s heart set on”或“set one’s heart on”表示把心思都放在某件事上,也可理解为决心做某事,例如:
She set her heart on starting her own business.(她一心想要开办自己的公司。)
此外,“be set on sth./doing sth.”
He’s set on going to university.(他决心要上大学。)
Grug: Once upon a time there was a little tiger who lived in a cave with her family. There were a lot of rules, but the big, simple one was to never leave the cave at night. And the door was so heavy. You think it would be easy to remember.
Thunk: So easy to remember.
Grug: I know.(Eep sighs) But while everyone was asleep, she went out anyway.
Other Families: No!
Grug: Yes! And no sooner than she did, their cave was destroyed and everyone had to go on this long, sucky[糟糕的] walk, with some weirdo[怪人] they met, and died! (Guy and Belt feels astonished) The end. Guy: Wow, I did not see that coming-twist[扭转] ending. My stories never end like that.
Thunk: Yes! Two stories in one night!
(Sandy laughs and everyone stares at Guy)
Guy: Ummm, okay, but it won’t be as good as Grug’s. Hmmm, um, once upon a time, there was a beautiful tiger. She lived in a cave with the rest of her family. Her father and mother told her: “You may go anywhere you want, but never go near the cliff, for you could fall.”
Grug: And die. Good story.
Guy: But when no one was looking, she’d go near the cliff, for the closer she came to the edge, the more she could hear, the more she could see, the more she could feel. Finally, she stood at the very edge. She saw a light. She leaned out to touch it, then she slipped.
(everyone feels astonished)
Grug: And she fell.
Guy: And she flew.
Thunk: Wow, where did she fly?
Guy: Tomorrow.
Eep: Tomorrow?
Guy: A place with more suns in the sky than you can count.
Thunk: It would be so bright.
Guy: A place not like today, or yesterday. A place where things are better.
Thunk: Oh…
Grug: Tomorrow isn’t a place. It’s...It’s...It’s...You can’t see it!
Guy: Oh, yes. Yes, it is. I’ve seen it. That’s where I’m going.

“the+比较级…, the+比较级…” 越……”,最常见的有“the more…, the more…”
I want you out of here, and the sooner the better.(你给我走开,越快越好。)
The less said about the whole thing, the happier I’ll be.(对整件事谈得越少,我越高兴。)
Grug: (tries to punch Guy) No! What is this stuff that saves you from my punches?
Guy: Tar[
Grug: No!
Guy: Please... Grug: No! I have to get back to them!
Guy: You have to stop...Stop struggling!
Grug: No!
Guy: Grug, stop! (sighs) No one gets out of this. Believe me. I know.
Grug: Your...?
Guy: Family. Yeah.
Grug: Sorry.
Guy: (sighs) I was little when it happened. The last thing my parents told me was “Don’t hide. Live. Follow the sun. You’ll make it to Tomorrow.”
Grug: You followed the light. My daughter is a lot like you. Guy: No. She’s like you. She loves you but always forgets to say it, just like you forget to tell her.
Grug: (sighs) I guess I was just busy keeping them all alive.
Guy: It’s okay. That’s what dads do.
Grug: That’s right, but we can’t do that from here. We need one of your ideas. Come on, you can do it.
(a beast roars and Belt feels scared)
Guy: Belt! Emergency Idea Generator[发动机], activate[启动]. (Belt punches Guy) Ow! Oh, I’ve got it.

It’s hard to make it to the top in show business.(演艺行业要达到顶峰是很不容易的。)
Half the cubs won’t make it through their first year.(只有一半的幼童军可以熬过入伍的第一年。)
Eep: This is me. My name is Eep. And this is my family, the Croods. If you weren’t clued in by the suntans[晒黑] and pets, we’re not exactly cavemen anymore.(Thunk: Let’s do it again. I think I blinked. )
Eep: Our world is still plenty harsh and hostile. But now we know the Croods will make it, because we changed the rules, the ones that kept us in the dark. And because of my dad, who taught us that anyone can change. So from now on, we’ll stay out here, where we can follow the light.
