In traditional Chinese society with low literacy rate, opera not only plays an extremely important role in the amusement of the people, but also exerts a tremendous influence on the common people’s pursuit of beliefs, the shaping of national character and social education. The introduction of “public ritual ” research in the field of western “New Culture History ” into the analysis of the history of Chinese opera helps to think and review the opera from different dimensions. Under the background of traditional agricultural society, the drama as a “public ritual” has a subtle influence on Chinese culture, economy and society, and has a two-way interaction with the constantly changing social practice in traditional China.
