On January 7 this year, Taipei News reported that the US military ordered 300 million 5.56mm bullets from Taiwan. This is because since the 1990s. After several local wars, the U.S. forces launched the Iraq war in 2003, and their stocks and ammunition were exhausted, making it difficult for the domestic bullets to make timely supplements. As a result, the U.S. military decided to import bullets for M16 and M4 series rifles. After inspecting South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan, it was more satisfied with the quality of bullets produced in Taiwan. At the same time, Taiwan’s bullets produced large quantities and the prices were surprisingly cheap. The price of each bullet, including freight and insurance, was only NT$7. This huge amount of bullet transactions is of extraordinary significance. It is Taiwan’s largest export of arms. Even if it is sold at an almost costly price, it is not a small gain for Taiwan’s military enterprises. In recent years, Taiwan’s ammunition production exceeds demand, and ammunition stocks have been exhausted. The military factories also have little to do. The production line is idle most of the time. This order undoubtedly brought about a certain turn for the Taiwan military factory. On March 6th this year, Taiwan reported that a delegation of the US Department of Defense went to Taiwan to purchase military products. The list listed over 300 items including sub-systems, personal equipment, military products, ammunition, laptops, unmanned aircraft, infrared equipment, and JSF.
