Australia’s BHP Group recently succeeded at the Jabiru 9 exploration well southwest of the Jabiru field in the new exploration area of Timor Sea, drilling 154 feet of oil columns to further expand the Jabiru field and increase reserves. Geologists say the Jabiru field is like a giant underground pipeline stretching from southwest to northeast but damaged by many faults. The Jabiru 9 well for the first time confirmed that fault traps were identified by seismic data. To evaluate the Jabiru sandstone of the fault-ascent tray, the operator then side-drilled the well and side-drilled the bevelled total reservoir to a depth of 174 feet, expanding the field to the southwest. BHP plans to open another 2-3 development wells. In addition, the Jabiru 10 well will be drilled to prove the field
