2002年5月25日,中国台湾地区的“中华航空公司”C1611航班,在由台湾飞往香港的途中在澎湖海域不幸失事,造成台湾同胞重大人身伤亡和财产损失。台湾“华航”班机失事原因确定是在“高空解体”。资料显示,该机在正常飞行途中,突然于三万英尺以上高空瞬间裂为四块。①事件发生后,台湾“华航”副总经理张良士称“华航”已于26日成立了理赔小组,待家属自澎湖返台后,择期进行协商。“华航”先期给每位罹难者10万元新台币慰问金。张良士表示,失事原因不会影响理赔金额。“华航”将以4年前的大园守难的理赔金额为基础进行赔偿(大园空难赔偿金为每人新台币1000万元,约合30万美元),也就是每位受害人获得不少于30万美元的赔偿金。②
