BASF decided to acquire Clariant’s cross-linked polyacrylate business, which will make BASF a leader in the production of superabsorbents. Clariant’s superabsorbent production capacity in 1997 reached 115,000 t/a, and business sales were close to 300 million Swiss francs (197 million US dollars).
