This article explores the origin and inheritance of Spencer’s Xian-Xian Vol. 1 and the British medieval literary tradition. This essay elaborates that the volume draws material from King Arthur’s legend, Canterbury Tales and Saint George’s legend. By adopting the ancient fable pattern and character image mode, the “Xian Xian Hou” is shaped by “sustained fable” and ideal new personality. At the same time, the language is quaint, the law is rooted in the soil of local poetry, and the Spencer Festival is also born out of the practice of traditional stanza.
