本文重新考察“永贞革新”,旨在揭示其所显示的中国官僚政体的弊端——循资渐进、墨守陈规者号称长者、厚德,即使平庸碌碌,也并不以为缺点,反以老成持重为誉;锐意革新、稍越班资者则为小人、无德,即使才高当世、智堪经国,也难免狂妄、躁进之嫉,更有甚者庸众合力排挤、甚至落井下石。这一官僚政体追求一种“无过便是功”的政治格局,由于历史的积淀,形成了一种超稳定的结构,一旦有人对这一格局稍作改变,则会引起整个官僚集团的群起而攻之。从而昭示革新之艰难、革新者之勇气以及自身素质提高的重要性。
