Translation, especially the translation of literary works, is not only a conversion from one language to another, but also faithfully reproduces the artistic features and style embodied by the original author in the process of translation. This paper attempts to explore the important role that contextual analysis plays in understanding and accurately expressing literary translation. It expounds that translation should be based on specific contexts so as to determine the pragmatic implications of a specific vocabulary in its context. Starting from two aspects of linguistic knowledge and linguistic knowledge that constitute the context, taking the Chinese version of Vanity Fair by Mr. Yang Bi as an example, the author analyzes the explanatory power and the important influence of contextualization on literary translation.
