The changes of platelet α-granule membrane protein (GMP-140) and its relationship with endothelial injury and lipid peroxidation were observed by ELISA in 40 elderly and elderly patients with essential hypertension. The results showed that the platelet surface GMP-140, von Willebrand factor (VWF), and plasma lipid peroxides (LPO) in hypertensive patients were significantly higher than those in normal controls (P <0.05 or P <0.001). And stage Ⅱ patients were higher than stage Ⅰ patients (P <0.05 or P <0.001). Plasma superoxide dismutase (SOD) had no significant change, SOD / LPO ratio was significantly lower (P <0.001). The changes of platelet surface GMP-140 in hypertensive patients were positively correlated with plasma VWF and LPO, but negatively correlated with the ratio of SOD / LPO. Tip platelet activation may be an important intermediate link in the development of hypertension.
