The Er_2O_3/TiO_2 complex photocatalyst was prepared with tetra-n-butyl titanate [Ti(OC_4H_9)_4] and Er_2O_3 by sol-gel method in alcohol -HNO_3 liquor and characterized by XRD. The influential factors on photocatalytic activity of Er_2O_3/TiO_2, such as the content of Er_2O_3, the calcined time and temperature etc. were discussed. The pH value, concentration of acid red B and reaction time were studied for photocatalytic degradation of acid red B. The results show that Er_2O_3/TiO_2 annealed at 450 ℃ for about 3 h has the highest photocatalytic activity and the degradation rate of acid red B with 10~20 mg·dm -3 to 96% under 30 W 365 nm irradiation for 3 h light. The photocatalytic degradation of acid red B with Er_2O_3/TiO_2 is the first order reaction.
