本论文试图对《最后一个莫西干人》的人物刻画从种族角度进行分析。库伯以18世纪英法殖民混战为背景,对当时不同种族的人物及其关系进行了生动描写,作品中强大的人物塑造法对库伯种族观的构建具有核心意义,集中体现了库伯对于印第安民族的矛盾态度;一方面表现了库伯出于人道主义和人性论,对于印第安人民悲惨遭遇的惋惜和印第安部落消亡的同情,另一方面也体现了他白人至上,对印第安民族根深蒂固的歧视。
This thesis tries to portray the figure of “the last Moshi man” from a racial perspective. Cooper in the 18th century British and French colonialist melee as the background, the then figures of different races and their relations were vivid description of the powerful characters in the work of building Cooper’s concept of the construction of the race has a core, focused on Cooper for the Indian Ethnic contradictions and attitudes. On the one hand, it shows Cooper out of humanitarianism and the theory of human nature, for the tragic suffering of the Indian people and the sympathy of the disappearance of the Indian tribes. On the other hand, he shows his superiority toward white and the deep-rooted discrimination against the Indian people.
