During his tenure in Fuzhou Military Command, Gen. Zeng Youcheng, former deputy director of operations of the Air Force, once mentioned an interesting topic: the South China Tiger, the southern tiger in the New Fourth Armies in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. In the winter of 1944, Tsang Yau-seng, who was in charge of reconnaissance as the 7th division of the New Fourth Army, took part in a rescue operation of U.S. pilots. Not far from the station where they resided, there was a Japanese stronghold. The New Fourth Army was swaggering over and did not overlook the Japanese at all. The incident was related to the tiger.
