Objective To study the post-effects of different levels of high + Gz exposure on human lung function. Methods Totally 95 active male fighter pilots were examined with +7 Gz and +9 Gz centrifuges, respectively. Lung volume, pulmonary function and diffusion function were measured at + G; 1 d before exposure and 12-65 min after exposure. Results After +7 Gz exposure, pilots had impaired pulmonary diffuse function and mild small airway function, with a worsening of +9 Gz exposure and a decrease in vital capacity. However, there was no significant difference between +7 Gz and + 9Gz. Conclusions High G exposure can lead to post-operative effects of reduced airway function and diffusive function, and its duration and long-term effects on pilot lung function need further study.
