In 1977, American psychologist Albert Bandura published a paper called “Self-Efficacy: A Comprehensive Theory of Behavioral Change,” which for the first time introduced the concept of self-efficacy. By 1980, Bandura, winner of the American Psychological Association Outstanding Scientific Contribution Award, delivered a speech titled “Self-Efficacy Mechanism in Human Behavior” at the awards ceremony to give a more comprehensive exposition of the concept of self-efficacy. The publication of The Social Foundation of Thought and Action: A Theory of Social Cognition marks that Bandura completed the construction of the self-efficacy theory.
