Epithelial-mesenchymal transitional (EMT) is a phenomenon in which epithelial cells transform into mesenchymal cells under specific physiological and pathological conditions and plays a key role in the evolution of epithelial tumors. In the process of tumorigenesis, transcription factors Snail, Slug, Twist and other often can trigger EMT, to promote tumor invasion and metastasis. Snail, Slug and Twist play an important role in the development of oral squamous cell carcinoma, especially in infiltration and metastasis. This article introduces the concept and characteristics of EMT and the gene structure and biological characteristics of Snail, Slug and Twist, especially its role in oral squamous cell carcinoma.
