The basic characteristics of the super-village and the “middle” form have come to nothing. Since the 1990s, the super-village has become an important phenomenon in the development of rural grass-roots society. Based on the case studies of super villages in eastern and southern China, this paper describes the special existence of villages in the process of industrialization and urbanization in the countryside and points out that the existence of super villages is different from the traditional rural areas.
