Esophageal cancer is a common malignancy involving changes of several protooncogenes and tumor suppressor genes such as C-myc. Studies on the expression of C-myc in esophageal cancer are rare and are mostly limited to the detection of nucleic acid molecules. Oncogenes, on the other hand, cause the transformation of normal cells to work through their encoded product, the consensus oncoprotein. This experiment uses immunohistochemical LAB method to detect esophageal neoplasia and adjacent cancer from the level of protein expression.
