Objective To understand the mastery of HIV / AIDS related knowledge of undergraduates in lower grades and their attitudes towards AIDS patients and PLHIV, so as to provide reference for further targeted education measures. Methods The questionnaire was designed by ourselves and the cluster sampling method was used to conduct an anonymous questionnaire survey on a total of 836 freshmen and sophomores in a medical school. Results The awareness rate of nursing students on blood and sexual transmission of AIDS was 99.4% and 97.7% respectively, but the awareness rate of mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy, childbirth and lactation was less than 90%. For AIDS non-transmission , Such as “mosquito bites” awareness rate was only 24.5%. 94.3% of people think that AIDS patients or infected persons deserve sympathy and help, but only 77.4% are willing to treat and care for them, and about 50% are willing to have some daily contact with them. Conclusions The current status of AIDS related knowledge and attitude of undergraduates in lower grades is not optimistic. It is necessary to further develop a comprehensive, systematic and in-depth AIDS professional education supplemented by psychology and professional ethics education to improve students’ psychological quality and social responsibility and to improve their attitudes toward AIDS patients.
