南非里查兹湾运煤线为达到出口煤炭年运4,400万吨的运输能力,正在进行线路和装备的综合技术改造。从前期方案选比入手,重点研究提高车辆轴重至26吨及相关因素的优化配合,确定以分段开行100辆和200辆车的长重列车为基本措施,相应地落实牵引机车、车辆、行车指挥各项装备和线路、站场的设计计划,安排路、矿、港同步建设。综合能力预留进一步扩大到年运8,000万吨。这是一个比较完整的铁路综合技术改造实例。
