The form of the respiratory response caused by the dog’s carotid sinus baroreceptor is closely related to the type of anesthetic used. Animals anesthetized with sodium thiopental, sodium amoxicillin and sodium pentobarbitol were predominantly hyperactive. Animals anesthetized with sodium pentobarbitol had slightly more inhibition than excitatory responses. Animals anesthetized with chloralose were predominantly excited or biphasic, whereas animals under urethane anesthesia were predominantly cytostatic. Excision of both sides of the neck vagus nerve trunk, can affect the respiratory response, but also with the type of anesthetic used - set relationship. Animals that were anesthetized with thiopental sodium, amoxicillin and sodium pentobarbitol remained excited primarily after cutting off the vagus nerve trunk, some of which became more pronounced. Excited by a few animals, Slightly lower respiratory rate. Animals anesthetized with urethane, sodium pentobarbital, or chloralose help to suppress the deepening or progression of the reaction after the vagus nerve is cut off. Deeper anesthesia can affect the degree of respiratory reaction, but does not change the form of respiratory reaction. Co-stimulation of carotid sinus pressure-sensing respiration, combined with the most common 120-140 mm Hg in our experimental settings, resulted in a slight decrease in co-operative values after cutting off the vagus nerve. The different types of anesthetics and the effects of vagotomy on respiratory responses, as well as the afferent pathways of carotid sinus pressure-sensing respiratory responses, have been discussed.
