As a link between micro-entities and macro-political institutions, government trust is the micro-foundation for the effectiveness of government policies. By influencing the benefits and risks of public goods provided by the government, the government reliance on resident redistribution preferences can have a significant impact. By using the data of CGSS micro-survey and the Ordered Probit model, considering the two-way causal relationship between government trust and residents’ preference for redistribution, we find that resident’s trust in government significantly affects their redistribution preference. When other conditions remain unchanged, The higher the level of trust, the higher the degree of preference residents support redistribution.
