In India, about 300 million women do not have a sanitary napkin when they come to menstruation, but instead use rags, dried leaves or newspapers. According to market research firm AC Nielsen, 70% of Indian women can not afford to use hygiene products, and even if they can afford to buy it, they can go to the pharmacy to buy it from the male staff. The consequences are serious: adolescent girls in India are unable to attend classes for 50 days a year, 23% of them drop out of school due to menstruation, and the payrolls decrease accordingly.
