Objective: To provide an ideal animal model for the study of alcoholic liver disease (ALD). Methods: Twelve rats in model group were fed with alcohol 50% twice daily and alcoholic beverages for 14 consecutive weeks to establish a rat model of chronic alcoholic liver injury. The effects of alcohol on rats Effects of liver tissue and ultrastructure. Results: Fatty liver appeared in all the rats in model group; alcoholic hepatitis occurred in 91.6% of the animals, and interstitial hyperplasia of liver was observed in some rats (16.7%). The liver tissue and ultrastructure of rats in control group were normal . Conclusion: This method can result in a rat model with pathological changes similar to human ALD.
