A large number of phosphorous algae fossils were found in the Lower Cambrian phosphorites in Eastern Yunnan. Sedimentology and SEM studies show that all the particles in the phosphorite are surrounded by phosphorus-containing algae, which may be formed by cyclic death of phosphorus-rich bacteria and algae.
