卫星接收处理设备接收到泰罗斯-N气象卫星发下的高分辨图象传输(HRPT)资料后要进行预处理(即地理定位、定标及质量检验),并把甚高分辨率辐射计(AVHRR)资料和低数据率(TIP)资料分离开。AVHRR资料可以记录在计算机兼容磁带(CCT磁带)上,也可经过图象处理后形成图片。提供给用户的产品有两种形式:一是图片(拷贝成胶片或相片),用户只需进行图象解释;另一种是CCT磁带,它已经过预处理但未作图象处理,要由用户自己提取所需的信息。由于我国不少部门已有自己的图象处理设备,因此CCT磁带对他们来说更为方便灵活。使用CCT磁带首先需要知道资料的信息格式,这里作一简要介绍。
