This article examines the extent and characteristics of the internal structure of auto parts in China’s intra-industry trade (IIT). First, according to Balassa’s definition, intra-industry trade refers to two-way trade between similar products. The traditional theory holds that intra-industry trade is a special phenomenon in the trade flow of industrialized countries with similar economic conditions. This paper calculates the extent to which China’s intra-industry trade in the automotive industry has been achieved as an emerging economy. The results show that there is indeed a geographical bias in China’s intra-industry trade. The level of intra-industry trade between China and Asia and the Americas is higher than that between China and other regions. However, in the past 10 years, the level of intra-industry trade between China and Europe and the Americas has increased rapidly. This shows that China is part of Asia’s regional cooperation and appears as an unprecedentedly higher part of the global value chain.
