Pigment epithelial cell-derived factor (PEDF) is one of the earliest secreted glycoproteins with molecular weight of about 50 KDa found in human embryonic retinal pigment epithelium. PEDF widely exists in many organs and tissues of the human body, and its expression level is closely related to many pathophysiological processes in the human body. Recent studies have shown that PEDF plays an important role in tumor growth, invasion and metastasis. Tumor tissue microvessel density and tumor growth rate was positively correlated, as the strongest known endogenous angiogenesis inhibitor, PEDF can inhibit tumor angiogenesis and tumor growth. In addition, PEDF can also induce tumor cell apoptosis by activating a variety of complex signal transduction pathways.
