British novelist Beckett’s novel trilogy represents the highest achievement of his novels, of which the second piece, The Death of Malone, is an indispensable central link. Its first theme is death. The whole novel vividly narrates the slow and painful waiting for death of an elderly person. There are lots of images of death everywhere, presenting the reader with a horrifying death maze. However, if we look into the maze and explore it, we can unexpectedly find out that the death maze is only an elaborate narrative tactic of the author, but implicit is his new interpretation of the world: the absurdity of life, the nihility and lack of the whole world significance. Malone dared to face the courage of death and absurdity to construct a new sense of tragedy in the modern sense. The death-facing narrative of “The Death of Malone” refers to the ontological care of the life consciousness of a person, and the reflections on the student under the dead concern.
