In 1044, Liao Xingzong “Shengzhou as Xijing”, since the formation of the Liao dynasty, Beijing as the base, from all directions to control under the jurisdiction of the different regions of the political and economic patterns. Datong, Xijing is the last capital city set up by the Liao dynasty. It is one of the important tax revenue bases in the Liao Dynasty and occupies an important position in Liao history. In the past, academic research and discussion on the status of Xijing in Datong often focused on military and political aspects but seldom considered economic and trade issues. Therefore, it is very difficult to objectively and comprehensively reproduce the history of Datong in western Liaoning.
