The dramatic changes in climate and the shape of the oceanic basin mark the beginning of Cenozoic. Evolving evidence shows that in the extremely warm period of the Early Cenozoic (about 55 Ma), deep-water formations mainly in the Southern Ocean formed radically different circulation patterns than the modern model and formed deep water in the northern North Atlantic and the Southern Ocean Floor. When did the transition from the Early Cenozoic to the bipolar model play a major role?
