Manganese nodules are nodules of many metals at the bottom of the oceans and consist mainly of oxides and hydroxides of manganese and iron. Recently, we measured the radioactivity of samples from Pacific Bottom Manganese Tuberculosis using an anti-shielded, low-background gamma spectrometer. The average diameter of the sample is about 4cm and the weight is 75.2g. The measured gamma spectra were analyzed and found to contain uranium and thorium radioactivity.
