Objective To understand the effect of 24-h sleep deprivation on subjective fatigue and psychomotor capacity, and to explore the feasibility of evaluating the subjective fatigue degree by using the self-made fatigue assessment questionnaire. Methods 12 male students in the medical university underwent 24-h sleep deprivation, visual acuity simple tracking and cursor tracing were tested by computerized neurological behavior. The self-assessment of subjective fatigue degree was made by self-identified fatigue classification (RPE) and self-made fatigue questionnaire. Results After sleep deprivation, the simple visual response time was significantly prolonged and the cursor tracking deviation was increased. The total score and factor scores of the fatigue assessment questionnaire were significantly higher than those before deprivation; the scores of fatigue assessment before and after sleep deprivation were significantly higher than those of RPE The correlation coefficient was r = 0.76 (P <0.01). Conclusions 24h sleep deprivation can cause the decline of mental motor ability. The reliability and validity of the fatigue assessment questionnaire have been preliminarily verified and have potential applications.
