The Tibetan-language book Tshang-yang Gya. tsho Love Poems is very popular in Tibet. The author, Tshang-yang Gya. tsho was the sixth Dalai Lama (1683-1706), and was of Tibet’s Menba nationality.With a population of 7,475, the Menba nationality live predominantly in the Menyu area and Medog and Cona counties in Tibet.The Menba have their own language. Because of the long-time contact with Tibetans, they write in Tibetan script.The Menba settlement is covered with forests. Their lives have a close relationship with wood. Their creativity is fully demonstrated in various kinds of woodwork. Under their skillful fingers, the hard pine tree roots become beautiful, top-quality wooden bowls.The Menba build their houses with stones and wooden planks. The houses are usually of two stories. The first fioor is used to house livestock, while the people live on the second floor. The top floor is used for storage.
