Wei Changlin, deputy director of the Rural Economics Department of the State Development Planning Commission, said recently that the feasibility study report for China’s largest water transfer project, the South-to-North Water Transfer Project, has been successfully completed and will be officially submitted to the State Council for approval. The South-to-North Water Transfer Project (referring to the Han) project draws water from the Danjiangkou Reservoir of the Hanjiang River, the largest tributary of the Yangtze River, to the North China Plain for the use of water for five provinces, cities, industries, agricultural irrigation, and urban life in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Henan, and Hubei. Danjiang Reservoir has abundant water resources, good water quality, and the reservoir is in command, and the total main canal is free flowing and covers a wide range of advantages. It is the most ideal solution to resolve the water shortages in Beijing, Tianjin and North China.
