Although breastfeeding causes about 40% of all HIV infections in children, breastfeeding prevents millions of deaths every year by preventing diarrhea and other infections; thus providing a safe pathway for HIV-infected mothers to breastfeed their babies Exploration has become an urgent research topic. A study jointly conducted by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the University of Zimbabwe and the Harare City Health Board found that exclusive breastfeeding significantly reduced mother-to-child transmission of HIV and infant and child death compared to some forms of breastfeeding . Infants fed formula or animal milk during the first three months of life had three times as much risk of breast-feeding as HIV-infected infants compared to exclusively breastfeeding infants and toddlers. The findings have been published in the recently published issue of AIDS. Dr. Jean Humphrey at the Bloomberg School of Public Health in charge of the ZVITAMBO research project underlined that the current state
