Objective To investigate the role of NGF (nerve growth factor) in shape-deprivation myopia in guinea pigs. Methods Fifty healthy 3-week-old guinea pigs of one week old were randomly divided into three groups: ABC 3 group, A (n = 10) group covered the right eye with a translucent mask, B (n = 20) C (n = 20) group of translucent cover to cover the right eye + vitreous cavity injection of saline. Results There was a significant difference in axial length and diopter (P <0.05) between retinal occlusion and control eyes in ABC 3 group. The apoptosis of retinal cells was significant and the expression of Caspase-3 was increased. However, There was no significant difference in axial length and diopter, and the apoptosis rate of retina in group B was the lowest. Conclusion Apoptosis is one of the pathological causes of form-deprivation myopia, and NGF partially prevents these changes.
