Japan’s steel industry has made significant improvements in energy conservation over the past decade due to the continuous casting process, the continuous process and the overall management of processes. The replacement of heavy oil by coal, such as blast furnace, reduced the amount of oil used in 1985 by 86 %. However, with the recent slowdown in the development of steel production, lower equipment utilization and product quality and diversification, it is estimated that there will be no significant reduction in energy consumption.
