Computer-assisted tomography has proved useful in medical diagnostics because it makes it possible to obtain X-ray images of human cross-sections that are not available from other sources. A team at Stanford University in the United States is currently working on computer-assisted laser tomography to measure the concentration of various kinds of meta-particles in a gas. Four people, including K. E. Bemett of Stanford University’s Department of Applied Physics, built a ring detector 24 inches in diameter and equipped with 90 photodiodes to measure the concentration of iodine vapor in the laminar flow
