Derrida argues that, similar to an individual, the community’s structure is like the body’s immune system, which rejects all foreign invaders and turns its own immune system against itself in the so-called autoimmune. This logic is also evident in the Jefferson community and Emily in The Rose for Emily. The logic of immunity and self-immunity governs not only the relationship between community and individual, but also, to a lesser extent, the importance of understanding the behavior of individuals within the community and the relationship of each person to oneself. The relationship between Emily and Homer, Emily to kill the lover in order to save the lover is also a manifestation of this self-immune logic.
