“A radical history of art: Shanghai Memoir in the 1980s” is a local chronicles that reflect on the historical reflection of the paucity of ideological and linguistic resources. Shanghai, described in this book, is a city that poses a power challenge to Beijing at the cultural and enlightenment level, but she eventually failed in this power game - to a certain extent, the status of the mainstream, which is exactly the advantage of Shanghai’s artistic environment . After the founding of New China, the city no longer has a higher art school. The artistic creation environment in the 1980s relied more on artists graduated from the Shanghai Theater Academy and Shanghai Arts and Crafts Institute and artists from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, and their literary background. There are always a few younger, more lively practices popping up here than the “Academy of Fine Arts” that holds the big banner elsewhere.
