The toughening mechanism of Mo La2 O3 sintered billet was studied by scanning electron microscopy, fixed-point probe analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis and Auger electron spectroscopy. The results show that the addition of La 2 O 3 improves the transverse rupture strength and toughness of sintered molybdenum billet. The toughening mechanism of Mo La 2 O 3 sintered billet results from the adsorption of interstitial impurities on the surface of La 2 O 3 particles
