成都是一个拥有1082万人口的特大城市.又是西南地区政治、经济、文化中心和通讯、交通枢纽,其工业化速度举世瞩目。自2001年以来的6年间,GDP逐年增长,一直在人均1500～3000美元间运行;然而,各类事故死亡人数却逐年下降,平均每年下降7.34%。2001年,全市各类事故死亡1615人,GDP为1492亿元人民币,亿元GDP死亡率为1.08。2005年全市各类事故死亡1183人,比2001年少死432人:GDP为2371亿元人民币,亿元GDP死亡率为0.49。
