格木(Erythrophloeum fordii)是苏木科格木属常绿乔木,树高达30米,胸径约1米。主要分布于我国广西、广东、福建、贵州、浙江南部和台湾;越南也有。在广西,格木多分布于合浦、浦北、防城、陆川、博白、玉林、藤县、岑溪、武鸣、龙州、靖西等县(市);南宁、梧州和桂林等城市均有栽培。现在格木天然林极少,人工栽培不多,处于濒危状态,被国家列为二级重点保护植物。 格木与蚬木、狭叶坡垒、金丝李和紫荆木一起,被称为“广西五大硬木”。格木为散孔材,心材与边村区别明显,心材大,呈褐黑色,边材褐色稍暗,纹理直,结构细致,材质坚硬如铁,故有铁木之称。木材干燥
