铁路跨越海峡,一般都用桥梁、海下隧道或轮渡。论运输能力当以桥梁、隧道为大,但造价高、工期长。相比之下,建轮渡则有工程量小、投资省、工期短、见效快的优点。因而当跨海的运量还不大时,采用轮渡的经济效益是显著的。
