近代楚辞学是楚辞学破旧立新的轫始,刘师培的楚辞研究则是此时期楚辞学走向新变的代表。刘师培1906年发表了《文说·宗骚篇》,论骚锐意创新,对于楚辞的起源与流贯提出了新见。刘师培论文推重楚辞,将楚辞视为文章之祖,体兼六经,秉承诸子。集六经之菁华,括诸子之旨要。刘师培认为楚辞在文学发展史上的地位,非复“六经”所比拟,解构了前贤“变风变雅”之说,反拨了“异乎经典”说,肯定了以惊采绝艳、奇幻瑰丽为主要艺术特色的楚骚美学。写下了近代楚辞学革故鼎新的一笔。
